Basil Cucumber Lime Gimlet Recipe (Nonalcoholic mocktail)

Easy and refreshing, this mocktail is a crowd pleaser that’s great for sharing (although, you’ll love it so much you might not want to!).

The cucumber and basil paring is unexpected and totally delightful. And the tart lime balances with the sweet agave.

This recipe was inspired by Caroline Hwang’s wonderful book, MOCKTAILS, though I’ve altered the recipe to make it a bit easier because…well…I’m lazy #AF (that means “alcohol free”).

If you like, you can top off all the basil-cucumber-lime goodness with bubbles instead of flat water—but I have to admit, I think the fresh flavors really come through with just plain old still water.

What Foods To Pair With This Nonalcoholic Gimlet

The flavors of this alcohol-free drink are delicate, bouncy, and green. So you won’t want to pair it with any foods that are especially rich or heavy (like, say, a big ole steak or eggplant parmesan).

I think this mocktail would be excellent with a bunch menu: quiche, omelets, salad with goat cheese, even maybe a flatbread pizza with white cheese and artichoke. You can also just sip on it with some light snacks: crudité, mint bruschetta, lightly salted nuts and dried fruit.

(If you make this, invite me over, please!).

One Final Note About This Nonalcoholic Gimlet

When I hear “gimlet,” I think of my grandmother. I can’t honestly say whether or not she drank them at any point as a favorite, but something in my memory bank wants to come to the surface. I know that she would have had them with alcohol, but I also think she would have enjoyed trying my alcohol-free version, too.

Anyway, for this recipe, I picked a little bear cocktail pick. My gram retried to Pennsylvania, and the black bears came to visit frequently. It made me really happy to put this little bear on this #AF gimlet.

Check this out if you’re in the  market for cocktail picks.

Thanks so much for reading!

Love,
