New Year, New Goals!

A few months ago, I was standing in a friend’s kitchen when I announced that I was toying with the idea of opening a tasting room for adult craft beverages—of the non-alcoholic style.

There was a beat of silence (prob because said announcement was a total non-sequitur), and then: questions.

Do you mean like a bar…without alcohol?

Or a store?

Where would the market be for something like that?

I only had the vaguest of answers because I had no idea myself! It was just a thing I was kicking around wishfully in my head.

At some point during the last few years, I got really irritable over the adult beverage industry in this country. I just kept asking myself the same question:

Why do I have to drink WINE or BEER to drink like an adult?

Why can’t there be delicious, complex, interesting nonalcoholic beverages that aren’t pumped full of alcohol?

When I went to the liquor store to look for NA beverages, I rarely found more than a handful—and I’m not gonna lie, they weren’t great.

So I started doing some research and I discovered that there actually are MANY nonalcoholic beverages for adults—drinks that are brewed with care for a true sensory indulgence.

But—finding said drinks wasn’t easy.

And even I—totally enthusiastic about NA beverages—have reservations about plunking down 30 or even 40 bucks for a bottle of something that’s not actually alcohol and might not taste good.

I thought—a tasting room is just what we need. A place people can try these beverages easily and decide if they want to take a bottle home.

Flash forward to now. After many more discussions, lots of reading, and a trip away with a friend that gave me a TON of clarity, I’m pushing forward with this little dream.

My life as a mom doesn’t support the idea of a retail space right now. But I CAN do this. I can start an online space to talk about these interesting new adult beverages and all things sober curious.

I have some things coming down the pike that will bring me closer to my dream of making nonalcoholic beverages more easily available to people who might otherwise be reaching for alcohol.

If you are curious about your nonalcoholic options, I hope you’ll come along. I’m planning giveaways, contests, goodies and promos, and with any luck, I’d love to have some other authors come aboard for book reviews and promos.

And speaking of books….

What About Your Novels And Books?

If you’ve known me for a while, you know I’ve written a number of books. And I’m praying to be able to write again.

Certainly, there are some ideas that I’ve been nurturing these past years and letting them grow and mature.

But my first obligation in this life is to my kids. I’d do anything—and give up anything—for them.

Motherhood has rewired my brain (and my priorities). The truth is, I haven’t had the intense focus and quiet time that I need to write the quality of story I would like to write.

But I do think that time is coming again.

In the meantime, I’m over 40 and I’ve started to question my place in the world. And I have a new dream: my hope in my life is to do something to make the world a little better than it was when I found it.

And I think that creating a space for craft beverages of the nonalcoholic variety might just do that.

Alcohol is okay in moderation. But even just replacing one drink a week with a nonalcoholic alternative can lead to positive results.

People have to be able to actually *find* said drinks in order to make this kind of change.

So There You Have It!

Today—New Year’s Eve—is my pre-launch day for testing and making last minute tweaks on this little blog. And I’m so excited to see where it leads in the coming year!

I hope you’ll come along with me.

Disclosure: I may earn a small commission on purchases made from links on this site (I only link to products I would use). My family and I cannot thank you enough for your support of my efforts to spread the words about nonalcoholic beverages for adults!
